Squid Hunting

I’m going deep sea squid fishing tomorrow morning! Don’t usually do things that are this “hunting”-y, but I figure it’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing when a friend asks if you want to charter a boat and hunt 4″ squid miles off the coast in the Pacific Ocean.

Also, they’re Humboldt Squid, which are apparently supposed to be no further north than LA, but with the warmer-than-normal water, they’re swimming all the way up here to SF, and eating everything around. So technically, it is our ecological duty to harpoon them and return balance to the world.

More on the trip here and here’s a little preview of what we’re up against:

The Evil Humboldt Squid

My Year in Cities, 2009

Inspired by Matt Casey’s post by the same name, and thus indirectly by kottke’s post as well, here is my Year in Cities, for 2009. In bold are the places I hadn’t been before.

Cambridge, MA
Somerville, MA
Boston, MA
Avon, CT
Denver, CO
Killington, VT
New York, NY
Brooklyn, NY
Weehawken, NJ
Washington, DC
San Francisco, CA
Mountain View, CA
Jupiter, FL

Not terribly impressive (2008 would’ve also included London, Rome, Vatican City, & elsewhere in the US) but not too shabby either! I hope 2010 will be better… Boston, DC, and SF will pop up again, hopefully something exotic as well… Alaska? Ireland? Another jaunt about europe? I doubt it. But I can dream, America. I can dream.
